GRAND
ONE OF THE GREATEST AMPITHEATRES OF THE ROMAN GAUL
Description
Known since the 18th century, the amphitheatre of Grand has been the subject, since the 1960s, of an ambitious research programme revealing its architecture and its colossal dimensions.
With a total length of 148 m, the building, which was supposed to be about 25 m high, was organised around an arena where gladiatorial fights, wild animal fights and hunts took place.
More than 17,000 spectators could be seated on the stands.
