SAINT ETIENNE LES REMIREMONT
ERMITAGE SAINT ARNOULD
Description
The former hermitage of Saint Arnould is located on the Morthomme in the Fossard massif.
There are very few visible elements to this day: a cross on the site of the old chapel, a few modern engravings and some remains of the old farm.
Arnoul de Metz was born around 582 in Lay-Saint-Christophe and died around 640 in Saint-Mont. He was the 29th bishop of Metz (613 to 628), then became a hermit near the monastery of Mount Habend (Saint-Mont), founded by his friend Romaric. There he cared for lepers until his death. He is one of the ancestors of the Carolingian dynasty (third grandfather of Emperor Charlemagne).
