PLOMBIERES LES BAINS
BUVETTE THERMALE
Description
CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Formerly known as the Bain Royal, Bain neuf or Bain Impérial, it is closely linked to the Saint-Cloud decree of 1811, signed by Napoleon 1st. This decree nationalised lead waters. From then on, all spa operations were the responsibility of the imperial administration. This applied to both the waters and the buildings and land that had been purchased. The baths were rebuilt and could accommodate up to 40 people in 4 small round pools.
It was built by the architect Nicolas Grillot. Grillot brought a neoclassical style to the façade, with its columns and pediment.
The interior design dates from 1935 and is the work of architect Robert Danis and painter Franck Danis. Mosaics are omnipresent in the décor. The gold-tinted refreshment bar in the centre is the most important feature of the room.
The refreshment room is supplied with mineral water from 2 springs: the Source des Savonneuses and the Source des Dames.
The facades, roofs, mosaics, floor, walls, vault and fountain of the buvette were listed as historic monuments by decree on 10 April 2001.
