REMIREMONT
LA STATUE DU VOLONTAIRE
Description
Statue created in 1899 by the sculptor Paul-François Choppin to honor the citizenship of the inhabitants of the arrondissement of Remiremont who sent the first volunteers to defend the country in danger (1792). It has become the emblem of the city and stands at the intersection of Rue Charles-de-Gaulle and Rue de la Xavee. The statue and its pedestal have been registered as historic monuments since 1996. The pedestal has the inscription "A volunteer from 1792" and another "Donation from the State 1899" on one side.
