SAINT NABORD
ARBORETUM DE SAINT-NABORD
Description
Created in 2000, close to the "Au-dessus de Chaumont" sector, for educational and experimental purposes, this forest is home to a fine collection of softwoods (Larch, Oriental Spruce, Weymouth Pine, Colorado Fir, Sitka Spruce, Sequoia, Scots Pine, etc.) and hardwoods (Catalpa, Tulip tree, Montpellier Maple, Purple Maple, Cherry, Alder, Robinia, Ash, Red Chestnut, Oak, etc.). ) and deciduous trees (Catalpas, Tulip trees, Montpellier Maples, Purple Maples, Cherry, Alder, Robinia, Ash, Red Chestnut, Red Oak, Elm, etc.).
Planted by local primary school pupils twenty years ago, the trees' alternating green and purple foliage was intended to form the year's numbers as seen from the sky. A fitting tribute to the year 2000.
A map of the site showing the different species and the signposted route, located near the carport and picnic table, greets visitors on their arrival at the arboretum.
Around forty panels are spread around the site, providing information on the characteristics of each species found there. A further 5 panels are devoted to themes such as global warming and its consequences for flora and fauna, the forest ecosystem and vegetation in acidic environments. Directional arrows mark out the walking route from one end of the circuit to the other, suggesting the direction of the visit.
This experimental island of majestic trees, set in the heart of our forest, is just waiting for walkers who are keen to learn more and enjoy the great outdoors to reveal its treasures...
